About
Penthouse to Poorhouse
MY LIFE (After the Navy)
IN A CONCH SHELL

Hello there,

William (Biff) Hawke here. Yes, I’m the author of MY LIFE (After the Navy) IN A CONCH SHELL. Thanks for dropping by to learn more about my book.

I wrote the book in the year 2004 and it is presented in three parts:

Part 1 describes my final year in the Canadian Navy and my eight-year rollercoaster ride between bouts of entrepreneurship, unemployment and wage slavery in Canada’s Defence Industry;

Biff Hawke put everything on the line, failed, did it again, failed, did it again - took his lumps and turned the journey of his life into an adventure!

Part 2
takes the reader through my six-month journey to India between September 1996 and February 1997 and the seven months of its aftermath back Canada and in parts of East Africa;

I see this book as a refreshing look at taking a different approach to what lies ahead in the unknown and often turbulent world of transition.

Part 3
details my decision to make my permanent home in India, a country with different cultures, traditions and values from what I was used to, and my entry into India’s publishing industry. It also provides insights into India’s unique social and business culture through the eyes of a Canadian – an Outsider on the Inside. The third part also escorts the reader on my travels through many parts of Africa and Asia.

Lucid and Engaging! Bill ain’t no Boswell, but his colourful experiences, fluency in narrative and ease of development (nothing apparently contrived) make for an enjoyable read. This book would indeed entertain even those who neither knew Biff nor know Bill for that matter!
