 Editor's Note

This issue of Diplomatist is all about a random feel of the globalised world where diplomacy works wonders. There is range and variety; depth and exclusivity on the topics we have selected—diplomacy, legal, bilateral relations, business, investment and human-interest issues.

Topping the chart is the article on the evolution of Asian African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO) as a powerful organisation. It has been on the vanguard of several international legal negotiations, on behalf of many Asian and African countries, in various multilateral forums. Its contribution towards codification and progressive development of international law in the past 50 years has been well documented in the story.

This edition takes a hard look at the booming Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) industry and the article by an industry expert is further reinforced by an exclusive interview with the CEO of a leading player in the industry. It gives the business model behind LPO and the current edge that India enjoys in this segment. It also gives ample info on the mandatory skill sets required to service this market.

The feature on festival jewellery is timely. It showcases the splendour and variety of jewellery that is floating around; the elegant designs, brands, the connoisseurs of traditional and modern jewellery, the new tastes and emerging trends are all discussed. With the festival season in full swing and marriage season around the corner, it is all but natural to see the demand spurting further.

What is not to be missed is the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on the occasion of UN Day, exhorting all to uphold the ideals of peace and development. The other articles on Non-violence Day, as the tribute of the UN to Mahatma Gandhi for his historic advocacy of non-violence and importance of World Habitat Day are bound to make informed reading.

In Country Specials, we have featured the Czech Republic and Qatar, showcasing their emerging strengths and increasing bilateral ties with India. Our feedback is that country specials are evoking excellent response for the countries concerned from investors and exporters who are on the lookout for new destinations.

All high profile state visits have been documented in Passing Thru. The finer details of the visits by German Chancellor, Queen of Netherlands and President of Philippines are there as ready reckoners.

Before signing off, I request all diplomatic missions and embassies to take note of the Diplomatic Nite we are organising in New Delhi on 7th December. All are cordially invited.
