'One China' Fine! What About 'One India': Sushma Swaraj Asks Wang Yi

This is India's diplomacy at its best! External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has rewritten the rules of engagement with China.

In an interaction with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi recently in New Delhi, the new BJP government supported Beijing's 'One China' policy; while emphasising that China also must adopt a 'One India' policy.

China, in line with its aggressive foreign policy, sought to remind Sushma Swaraj about the Vajpayee government's commitment to the 'One China' policy. India's External Affairs Minister raised concerns over Chinese military presence in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and stapled visas for residents of Arunachal Pradesh.

Sushma Swaraj didn't mince words and was firm in her response. “Mr Minister, we support the 'One China' policy. However, we expect you to also have a 'One India' policy.”

It is a significant shift at the political level. The new Narendra Modi-led government has made it clear that India is no pushover.
