MIICCIA Chamber of Commerce recently organised a business conference on 'India-ASEAN Connecting for Business'. Hon'ble Minister of Commerce, Industry & Civil Aviation, Shri Suresh Prabhu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The conference was well attended by ASEAN Heads of Missions in India. Amb Manoj Bharti, AS Economic Diplomacy, Amb Suresh Reddy JS(MER) and other dignitaries shared their highly valued and professional perspectives.
Hon’ble Minister in his address spoke about the importance of enriching the strategic partnership between India and ASEAN. On deepening of India's relations with ASEAN, he said that together the two can unleash latent synergies through mutual cooperation in business and trade and that both sides should co-build and co-operate.
Hon’ble Minister will also address ‘4th India ASEAN Expo and Summit’ on 21st February 2019 in New Delhi. The theme of the summit is ‘Co-Creating the Future’.
The conference recognised the importance of ongoing work intended to maximise opportunities between the two regions. It also took stock of the current level of trade and economic engagement between India and ASEAN.
Amb Anil Trigunayat, President, MIICCIA, in his address, reaffirmed commitment to further strengthen India’s economic relation with ASEAN.
H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Ambassador of Thailand to India, stressed the benefits of deepening trade and economic relations. He said that India and ASEAN should undertake further measures, inter alia, to boost trade and investment, strengthen SMEs competitiveness, enhance cooperation in innovation, and promote regional value chains and production networks.
The Ambassador also underscored the importance of ASEAN and India connectivity cooperation. “We appreciate India’s productive role in accelerating the completion of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway Project,” added the Ambassador.
Thailand is the Chair of ASEAN for 2019. While Thailand has been among the grouping's biggest champions historically, it will have a lot on its plate this year.
Participating ASEAN member countries in this conference were Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam. The conference also provided a platform for the industry leaders to interact with ASEAN Heads of Missions and other dignitaries.
The ASEAN is a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising ten Southeast Asian states which promotes Pan-Asianism and intergovernmental cooperation and facilitates economic, political, military, educational and cultural integration amongst its members and Asian states.
